How Live Streaming Works

The #1 challenge in organizing a funeral or memorial is connecting with each of the loved ones that were the most important to the deceased. We can solve that for you. Live-streaming is an opportunity to assure that they funeral is available to every person that needs to be there, yet who can't.

We have the hardware to accomplish this goal. Today those who meant the most to your loved one can experience the service on their mobile device or computer. They will see and hear the stories and hear from family and friends as they pay their respects from anywhere in the world.

The entire funeral will be easily viewable on the internet through a simple link that we provide for you. Here is what live streaming looks like: www.LiveStream.com

Feel free to ask us how we can both film video and live-stream the funeral or memorial service for you.

What Makes a Good Slideshow

We have produced countless slideshows and can help you not only pull it off, but make it beautiful. But if you would rather tackle it yourself, here are some pointers:

Your slideshow should be 12 minutes or less overall. We've found that after 12 minutes, those watching it lose focus. That adds up to 3-4 songs to showcase the photos you choose.

Your first consideration after choosing the songs is their cadence. To start, listing to the song and measure the beat timecodes. You will find the most accurate measurement using the bass drum. Generally you will have four beats per measure. Generally speaking, you will want to change photos there. Faster songs will give you approximately three seconds per measure. Slower songs will give you approximately four.

So if you have three seconds and the song is 4:10 long, you just multiply 4x60 to get 240 seconds. then add :10 to get 250 total seconds. Next divide that by three seconds, which will give you 83.3 measures. which translates to 83 photos.

Then you can add in your totals for the next two songs to determine how many photos your will need altogether.

If you are having us produce the slideshow we ask for 10 or so extra photos just in case we have problems with some of them.

Once your photos are added to the timeline with your music, you can add transitions. We recommend using short, simple transitions. If a transition is too long or complex, it distracts the viewer and takes vital time away from the photo itself.

How to honor your loved on on Facebook

Facebook has built a beautiful means by which they can pay tribute to their loved one's memory. They provide a form in the Facebook help section to take your information and convert the account into an active memorial.

Once they approve it the privacy setting changes to 'friends only' and remove sensative information. The wall and profile will remain active for friends to add their condolences.

You can reach a substantially greater amount of people by using Facebook as a way to honor your loved one than any other location. Family and friends can help by sharing the tribute on their own pages.

In terms of closure, Facebook provides the opportunity to leave a comment, which can bring healing to many people.

A video is the best way to share the service, so that the Facebook page can go beyond sharing photos to actually sharing meaningful stories and spoken tributes.

Our videos include ambient cinematic shots of flowers and keepsakes, and we will make the video available for friends to share on Facebook.

Lastly, if you want to reach all of your friends at once with the tribute, Facebook gives you the opportunity to promote it with their ‘promote’ option.

How to honor your loved on on YouTube

Next to Google, YouTube is the largest search engine in the world. They will let you post in 1080P HD, so the quality is amazing. Therefore your guests can vividly experience the sights and sounds of their friends and loved ones honoring the deceased.

With YouTube you have the option to keep the video 'private' or 'public', and you can use keyword tags to reach as many people as possible.

Finally, YouTube is easily shareable to almost all types of social media.

BTW, when you copy and paste the link, add &hd=1 to the end. When the recipient clicks on to the link, the video will play in the HD setting.

How to allow everyone the chance
to speak at a funeral

If you are planning a memorial or funeral, it's important to have a timeframe for the service. If you don't keep track of time, the service can easy last too long, making the majority of the people fidgety or board. When my wife was a teacher, she loathed meetings that continued for too long, often because too many people want to speak on the microphone.

Yet setting a timeframe for the service can still mean that those who want to share will be given the opportunity to share their heart. This becomes possible through video testimonials after the service to give them the opportunity to say what is on their heart. This can also provide you the opportunity to hear the stories you my not otherwise hear and we have found these stories to be a highlight of the video.

How to pay your respects with a smart-phone video

Often there is someone who cannot attend a funeral who might otherwise have shared something important. This is something we can do for you.

All they need is a smartphone and good lighting. All they need to do is record a video pointed at themselves. Next they email it to us. We take it from there and produce it to present on our projector / screen. At the right time in the service we play it just like it was a slideshow.

Contact me if you have quesitons. We love to help!

How to delegate a slide-show

At Legacy, we help lift the burden out of producing a slideshow, and arrange to meet you with your stack of photos or uploading the digital photos to our computer.

If your photos are not digital we would either have you digitize them via a scanner or get together with us at Kinkos. From there we would scan each one and hand the hard copies to you. (We want to absolutely make sure nothing bad happens to your priceless original photos.)

When we have concluded the order of your photos and music selections, we start production immediately. We hear your ideas or custom touches that you may desire to include in the slideshow. We understand this is a big undertaking and we are available to help you through the process and answer your questions.

Plan on an average of 3-4 seconds for each photo that you have, which equals 20-25 photos per minute, which depends on the speed of the song. The final length of the presentation amounts to how long the songs go, up to no longer than 15 minutes. If it goes any longer you will lose the full attention of the people.

The main consideration in choosing photos is that the better quality you start with, the better it will look in the end. Choose close-ups often over photos that lack resemblance and detail. If possible, avoid damaged photos (major cracks, stains, moisture damage, discoloration, or pictures cut into various shapes). We often will attempt restoration of these damaged photos on the computer.

Very important: If you want your photos in chronological order be sure to number them chronologically by file name, etc. If you decide to scan, scan 4" x 6" photos at 200 dpi. All photos must be at least 4" x 6” a 5" x 7" photo should be scanned at 150dpi.

Finally, if you have video clips, we can use them just like a picture. We will turn down the song volume as the clip plays.

If you have any questions regarding any of our services please let us know.

How to plan a memorial or funeral in two states

You can have us simulcast (live stream) the service and have the receiving facility connect someone’s laptop or smart phone to a TV or screen. If you will be at both events, we provide you with the edited DVD to take with you to the reception in another city. You won't have to worry about the video, just in how to get the strongest internet connection.

If we are playing a slideshow and/or are playing a pre-recorded message as a simulcast, we simply have that play at the beginning of the service at the same time in both locations.

We make simulcast surprisingly easy.
